Autism

I have, in the last couple of years, become more aware of, and more curious about autism, since my friend Tricia has an autistic son named Riley, and Riley is also my friend Camille's nephew. Another friend has 2 neices and a nephew that are autistic, and my old boss's two kids are autistic too, and that really got me thinking about it and how it's in a family's genes and all that. I participated in the Walk For Autism earlier this summer with Riley and his family, and it was so cool to see all these families embracing autism and raising money for research etc. They were a good example to me of making lemonade out of lemons. And I don't claim to know a ton about autism--mostly I've just observed Riley and asked Tricia questions about it, and that's how I've learned. (thanks Tric for always taking the time to answer my questions!) Anyway....long story short, here is a news article on some pretty cool new research for a cure for autism. I hope one day to see these sweet little children cured, and it looks like we are now a little closer to seeing that happen and it's awesome!

It's people like you, who educate themselves as well as others, that make a difference. Thanks for including that article and more importantly, for asking questions. I appreciate so much when people want to know more about something that affects our lives so deeply. I want so badly for people to understand Riley! Your support at the walk was so much appreciated and so is your friendship! Thanks for the blog time on Autism!!! LOVE YA!

I work with Autistic kids all day everyday at work - I am not only rooting for a cure - I am yelling for one! Deven is thinking about doing his Sr. Graphic Design project about autism - so we'll see what happens.

I just thought of a great book - Daniel isn't talking. I read it a few years ago - check it out.
