Emily gets stitches

On Saturday, March 10, 2012, Cory took the girls outside to enjoy the beautiful weather and to use their Christmas bikes. They rode to the park first, and then decided to ride along the nature/walking trails that run through our neighborhood. Apparently Emily got a little ahead of Dad, forgot to steer, and ended up riding off the trail, down a 5 foot embankment, bike ran into a rock, she goes over the handlebars and straight into a rock with her head. She had a helmet on, but hit, of course, just below the helmet, right on her eyebrow. And yes, she split her head right open, poor girl.
Dad left the bikes on the trail, put Nattie on his shoulders, Emmie in his arms, and headed back to the house.
Long story short, a neighbor got the bikes, another neighbor took Natalie (bless our kind ward) and we took Emily, now covered in blood, to the ER.
Emily actually did really well at the ER, and hardly cried. She got to watch Mickey on Dad's phone, color a picture, got a cute sticker, and the promise of ice cream when we were done. Jackpot! :)
Bless his soul, the doc just put a numbing cream on the cut instead of giving her a shot to numb the area for stitches. It was a dream compared to what we went through with Natalie last summer when she needed stitches. So Emily ended up with six stitches total, as well as a pretty smokin black eye. It was swollen shut the next morning and she got quite a bit of attention at church. :)
She is doing fine though, and hardly notices the owie now. And the best part? She asked to ride her bike yesterday!! (on the way home from the ER she insisted that she was never riding her bike again) she was very cautious, but we will take that over not riding at all. Turns out, she is our tough cookie and we are so glad she is okay!
